Sean is a partner in Wotton + Kearney, a boutique litigation and insurance law firm. He is a litigator of 40 years’ experience having specialised in commercial litigation (property law focus), employment law and latterly medico legal.
Sean is experienced in both investigation and mediation processes. He is an associate member of AMINZ and has considerable experience in all aspects of Alternative Dispute Resolution.
He is an experienced and trusted advisor to clients when they are faced with disciplinary processes, employment disputes, commercial disputes and medical/legal issues. His practice requires Sean to represent the interests of clients before a range of Courts and disciplinary tribunals.
Some of his career highlights include:
- appearing for employers in personal grievance and employment contract disputes in the Employment Tribunal, Employment Court, Court of Appeal and in arbitrations.
- bringing the first claim in New Zealand on behalf of the estate of an employee who committed suicide following termination of his employment. This was successful and was upheld in the Court of Appeal.
- acting in a contract dispute for the purchaser of residential property in the High Court , Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.
- representing landlords and tenants in rental arbitrations and disputes over leases obligations.
